Šibenik
The oldest Croatian town in the Adriatic.
It is remarkable for its unique position in a picturesque and spacious bay, at the Krka rivermouth. It is situated on the hillsides in the north of the bay, and it is surrounded by the fortresses Sv. Mihovil, Sv. Ivan, and Subicevac. At the entrance to the Sv. Ante Channel there is the fortress Sv. Nikola which protected the town on the sea side. In the old part of the town the houses are closely built and made of stone, and the streets are narrow and crooked with lots of steps and vaulted passages.
